Narathiwat Attractions:
Hat Narathat
This beach is located near Narathiwat township area being a white
sand-powdered beach along the coastline of the Pacific ocean. It is
regarded a really beautiful beach of the South.
Hat Ao
Manao
is located at Mu 1, Tambon Kalawo Nua. This long beach stretches to
the Bangnara River of which the right bank borders the Thaksin
Ratchaniwet Royal Palace. Along the beach, there are an evergreen
line of pine trees and a plenty of beautiful rocks.
Ko Yao
is about 3 kilometers far from Amphoe Tak Bai. Near the intersection
of Tak Bai Market, there is a bridge called Saphan Khoi Roi Pi (Waiting
for 100 Years). The bridge, built across the Tak Bai river, links
the mainland and Yao Island. The island's eastern white sandy beach
is an ideal swimming area.
Land Attractions Dan Taba or
Tak Bai checkpoint
is an exit - entrance for tourism and trade between Thailand and
Malaysia. Taba is about 5 kms. away from Tak Bai district office. At
present the travelling to and from between the 2 countries has
become more convenient because there is a motor raft crossing.
Amphoe Sungai Kolok
This Amphoe is located some 60 kms. from township area bordering
on Malaysia at Rantau Panjang. It is the junction for people of the
two countries where the Malaysians do their shopping of consumer
goods and enjoy seafood in Thai restaurants because of cheaper
prices while the Thai tourists make their trip through the border to
shop some unusual particulars at Rantau Panjang town.
Mu Ban Yakang
is an old community which used to be called "Mu Ban Bang Nara"
before the reformation in B.E. 2475. It is about 4 kilometers from
the city hall on the road to Amphoe Rangae. It is here that a unique
and famous batik, cloth printed with exotic patterns, is made.
Mu Ban Thon
is around 16 kilometers from town along the route Narathiwat - Ban
Thon. It is a Thai - Muslim fishing village noted for Kor Lae boats,
local products made of bulrush and screw pine, Nam Bu Du (tasty
liquid resulting from fermenting fish with salt at a certain period)
and fish crisp.
200 Years Mosque or Vadinhusen Mosque It is located in
Tambon Lubosawo, 4 kms. from Amphoe Bacho Administrative Office, on
Narathiwat - Pattani Highway. The whole wood building mixed the Thai
- China - Malay architecture. It is now reconstructred but still in
the old form.
Phra Buddha Thaksin Ming Mongkok
This huge Sitting Buddha image was constructed on top of Khao
Kong Hill, in the area of Wat Khao Kong Tambon Lamphu, Amphoe
Muang, The whole area occupies a space of 142 rai having three
levelled hilly landscape. The width of the lap of this Buddha
image is 15 meters and the height from the base to the top of
the finial is 24 meters decorated with gold - coloured mosaic
tiles having Buddhistic beauty in compliance with the southern
culture.
Thaksin Ratchanivet Palace
This palace is located on the castern foot hill of Khao Tanyong.
8 kms. from the township area on the road to Tak Bai, being the
roval residence when H.M. the King and his royal family makes an
annual visit to the South.

Siri Maha Maya Pagoda
This pagoda is in the area of Wat Khao Kong, having the bell
shape, hollow inside, and the sacred Buddha's relics are
enshrined on the top. This pagoda hasbeen constructed, with
harmony of Narathiwat people, as dedication to H.M. the Queen.
The Shrine of Goddess To Mo or San Chao Mae To Mo
is located at Soi Phuthorn on Charoen Khet Road, Amphoe Sungai
Kolok. The goddess is highly revered by the local, people in
adjacent provinces and the Chinese in Malaysia. An annual fair
is always held on the 23rd of the third Chinese month. Included
among the activities as part of the fair are a goddess
procession, lion procession, tomtom procession, Eng Ko
procession and fire wading.
Lo Chut Local Museum is located at 95 Mu 3, Ban Sukae,
Tambon Lo Chut, 11 kilometers away from Amphoe Waeng. Artifacts
of not less than 1,000 years old such as bowls, pots, knives,
etc. have been collected. The museum opens for visitors
everyday.
Wat Chonlathara Singhe or Wat Phithak Phaendinthai
is situated at Mu 3, Tambon Chehe, about one kilometer from Tak
Bai Market. One of the interesting things of this Buddhist
monastery is an old temple or Bot Kao which was built in the
reigh of King Rama V. The most attractive spot of the building
is the finest mural painting by a priest painter from Songkhla.
It opens daily for the public from 8.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.
Moreover, there is a traditional sermon hall representing a
mixed artistic style of the South and Chinese architecture. In
the old vihara at the back of the monastery, there are a
sculpture of the 4 - handed God Vishnu, ceramic wares of Sung
Dynasty and a reclining Buddha image.
Waterfall and national
Nam Tok Ba Cho or Pa Cho
the most renowned waterfall of Narathiwat. The falling water of
this large scale waterfall pours down a cliff in the west of
Khao Nam Khang which is a mountain of Budo Ranges.
Nam Tok Chatwarin,
another waterfall in this national park, located in the area of
Tambon To Deng, Amphoe Sungai Padi, 3 kms. from To Deng Railway
Station. The waterfall, Nam Tok Chat Warin originates from Bukit
Nawae Mountain cascading down as a seven - levelled waterfall,
having a rest pavillion on the lowest level.
Nam Tok Si Po Forest
Park is in the area of Amphoe Rangae, about 8 kilometers far
from Tanyongmat Railway Station along the Highway no. 4055. The
park covers the total area of 625 rai approximately. Most area
is shady. Situated at the lower end of the waterfall is a large
scale stone basin. The park area is filled with various
flowering plants and fruit trees, including Si Po longan, the
famous fruit of Amphoe Rangae.
Budo - Sungai Padi
Mountains National Park, can be reached by travelling along
the Highway no. 42 and then taking the off road near Amphoe
Bacho for 2 kilometers. Situated within the national park area.
Pa Phru To Daeng or Pa
Phru SirindhornIt is the peat swamp forest considered the
biggest forest of its kind in Thailand. The forest covers the
area of Amphoe Tak Bai, Sungai Padi and Sungai Kolok. From
Amphoe Sungai Kolok, travel along the route Sungai Kolok - Tak
Bai, turn left at km. 5 (Chawananan crossroads) before
furthering a trip for 3 kilometers and then turn left again for
another 2 kilometers. The Sirindhorn Natural Study Center on
Peat Swamp Forest will be seen on your right. This forest is
still abundant in wildlife and rarely found natural forest.
Festivals
KORLAE BOAT RACING & NARA
THIWAT PRODUCE FESTIVAL
This festival falls in September every year.
Staged at the Bangnara River, the festival features boat racing
and dove racing and dove cooing contests, and the sale of Narathiwat
Produce, including longans, bulrush (Genus Scirpus) products and
other local handicrafts.
