Archipelago
Mu
Ko Phi Phi
It comprises six islands : Ko Phi Phi Don, Ko Phi Phi Le, Ko Bida
Nok, Ko Bida Nai, Ko Yung and Ko Phai, lie at some distance off
the coast-line. The superb scenery of the islands includes high
hills with jutting cliffs surrounded by beaches of silvery sand
and emerald green sea, hiding underneath a bank of coral reefs
and colourful marine life which are unrivalled in this whole wide
area. Phi Phi Le offers many attractions;
Tham Viking a large cave full of birds' nests as well as ancient colour paintings of Vikings' boats, thus giving the cave its exotic
name, Ao Pi Le and Ao Lo Sa Ma which are suitable for scuba diving,
and Ao Maya, a white sandy beach. Accommodations are available
on Phi Phi Don whereon a village is situated.
The twin Phi Phi Island, some 20 kilometres southeast of Phuket
and served by daily ferryboats, offers natural scenery even more
pristine than that of Phuket. Here are secluded beaches, blue sea
and a backdrop of lush tropical vegetation, but also sheer cliffs
rising dramatically hundreds of feet above the water. This is
where the birds’ nests used to make the soup so highly prized by
Chinese gourmets are gathered. At several places on the cliffs and
in caves you can see bamboo scaffolding, which the nest-hunt-ers
scale to dizzy, dangerous heights.There
is bungalow accommodation on Phi Phi Don, the larger of the two
islands, for overnight stays, while visitors with little time to
spare will find full enjoyment on an all-day inclusive tour from Phuket.
