Pak Klong Talat – the Bangkok Flower Market I was also looking for someplace different to entertain my mother who is in her late seventies so we visit edthe flower market. Never having been myself, I was unsure of how much walking was involved and what the crowds would be like. To be on the safe side we opted to go in the morning when it would be cooler and left Sukhumvit after rush hour traffic. We arrived there within half an hour and asked the taxi to stop at the beginning of the stalls. It is a spectacular wholesale market though they sell retail as well. The scent of roses and lilies assaulted us immediately and we saw hundreds of varieties of cut flowers and tropical plants on sale at very low prices. It has a great selection of malai garlands; the multi coloured floral wreaths placed on shrines or presented to guests. My mother really enjoyed herself and I came home with bunches of beautiful flowers at a steal. The market is on Chakpraphet road, close by to China Town. It is possible to do both in one day though we chose to have an early lunch by the river instead.
